Book Review: Airframe by Michael Crichton

Today’s book review and recommendation is Airframe by Michael Crichton. Michael Crichton is a well known science fiction author and his books made me fall in love with sci-fi. This one in particular was a science fiction mystery thriller about a high profile investigator named Casey Singleton who has a serious incident and mystery thrown into her lap. A twin jet plane en route to Denver from Hong Kong announces to air traffic control in California that it needs to make an emergency landing. They are an hour away and request priority clearance to land…along with at least forty ambulances. The request is odd but no one expects the carnage of three dead passengers and ninety-four injured with the inside of the plane completely destroyed. As Casey investigates, she comes under pressure from an over ambitious media, an insistent corporate for her to wrap this up, and other problems. Unfortunately no one is talking, and the evidence doesn’t make sense. What happened aboard Flight TPA 545 and will Casey figure it out before she loses her job…or something worse?

This mystery thriller was exciting to read. I felt I was in the shoes of the main character Casey Singleton (who is a strong single mother in a high profile investigation). I loved Casey’s character and I really related to her which partly made me pursue my engineering degree in college. There was so many twists and turns and the ending literally made me gasp. There is a lot of explanation about the airplane and mechanics that can see very science heavy but Michael Crichton, who is the best at this, is always able to make it interesting and understandable to the average reader. I was in high school when I first read this and enjoyed and understood it. 5 stars for me!
