Book Review: Percheron Saga by Fiona McIntosh

Today’s book review and recommendation is The Percheron Saga by Fiona McIntosh. Lazar fought his way to freedom and earned the coveted spot of Spur of Percheron the protector of the Zar Joreb who has just died. His son Boaz is set to take over but while Boaz is a good 15 yr old kid there are concerns surrounding his youth especially with his cruel mother sitting in the rafters waiting to use him as her pawn. As the court puts together his harem a beautiful woman named Ana is chosen and she captures the hearts of both men and the hatred of Boaz mother. But there is more to Ana than meets the eye and she may just be the key in the gods quiet battle behind the scenes.

The world building in this series is surreal! While there are elements of magic and history with the gods there are elements that feel realistic and you are transported to another world that I became completely entrenched in. The characters are amazingly written. Ana is not only beautiful on the outside but also beautiful on the inside. Despite her circumstances of trying to survive in the Boaz’s harem, being the target of several people, she is strong, resilient, and humble. Lazar is the strong, loyal type that is struggling between his loyalty to his Zar and post, and his love for Ana. He was an exciting character to read.

The plot was unique, with a different underlying, yet just as important battle going on that ties into the main plot of Ana, Lazar, and Boaz beautifully. There were so many twists that had me continuing to turn the pages. I give this 5 stars and would suggest checking it out!
