Book Review: Matched Series by Allie Condie

Todays book review and recommendation is the Matched series by Ally Condie. Cassia lives in a world where at the age of seventeen a big thing happens. The matching. The matching is where the government chooses a match for you whom you will eventually marry. Cassie already knows who she will marry. Her lifelong crush. It seems inevitable. On the morning of her matching day, she checks the system it but there’s a problem. It glitches and shows her someone she has never met before. Then, just as quickly, it glitches back to show her who she thought would be her match. While her family and others try to wave off her gut feeling that something is wrong, Cassie wants to investigate who this person is and why he would be her potential match. This sends Cassia on a mission that opens up another world that she doesn’t know exists. A world where the government wants to keep people naïve that they are slowly losing their freedom and giving it away day by day to the government in trade for a “utopian” society. Knowing this information, Cassia must choose whether to follow their rules or follow her heart.

I enjoyed the concept of this book especially the dystopian aspect of the government taking over and choosing everything for you (a bit too realistic now in our society!). The story was intriguing and I got through the 1st book quickly. As the books progress the story evolves from a love story to more. Unfortunately for me, by the third book the story lost its luster and it felt more like it was trying to solve a love triangle instead of the original plot of getting out from under the government’s thumb. Overall it was still a good series. 4 stars for me.
