Todays book recommendation/review is “The Moments, the Minutes, the Hours” by Jill Scott. Yes the Jill Scott whose song I have playing on the reel.
As a poet I drew inspiration from women like Jill Scott whose poetry flowed and had a hip hop or floetry vibe. She started writing poetry at the age of 14 and this is a collection of her works from over the years. I love her rawness and honesty. It has been a poetry book I have enjoyed reading for entertainment and for learning.
After focusing more on my novel writing for a while it was nice to pull this goodie out and get lost in the words and descriptions remembering all the journals in my closet filled with my own poems of love, loss, hurt, discovery, sadness, and joy.
This book was released in 2005 (when I bought it) so I’m not sure how available it is but if you’d like a modern honest heartfelt dip into poetry this is it.
